GUWAHATI: As the dates of the G20 meetings in Guwahati draw closer, several local agencies gear up their preparations for the same. While the local administration is busy cleaning and decorating the largest city of northeast India ahead of the arrival of the dignitaries, the tourism department is busy preparing the attractions and destinations of the city ahead of the event. The first event scheduled for Guwahati starts on February 2.

The administration of the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has also ramped up its preparations ahead of the event. The management in association with the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India organised a one-day Sensitization Program for taxi drivers operating from the airport. Utpal Baruah, Chief Airport Officer and Snehasis Dutta, Chief Operations Officer of the airport were present along with the officials and members of the tourism department from the North Eastern Regional Office Guwahati.

The drivers were trained about the importance of good behaviour and other etiquette while handling tourists. The need for punctuality, dressing well and up-to-date information was also emphasized in this training. They were also made aware of the advantages of this event for the growth and development of the state as well as the entire northeast region. Certificates were also issued to all the participants of this day-long event.

To foster the well-being of its employees, Guwahati International Airport Limiteds organised a badminton tournament in its premises. Employees of the airport, airlines, ground staff, commercial stakeholders and service providers took part in the tournament totalling more than 30 groups in the championship. While Ripun Bora (AAI) and Deepak Ch Pal (AAI) came out as winners of the Men's category, Sofia Ali (AAI) and Mayashree Gogoi (AAI) were champions in the Women's category. Awards were given out to all the winners at the concluding event of the tournament.
