GUWAHATI: The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati is ready to add direct flights to several new destinations, both domestic and international during its winter schedule. The winter schedule of the airport started on 29 October 2023 and will continue till 31 October 2024.

The Guwahati International Airport is the largest airport in the northeastern region. According to the authorities at this airport, they are planning to further expand the reach of the airport and connect new destinations with direct flights. These include five domestic airports and one international airport, connectivity to which is expected to begin within the winter schedule itself.

They have announced that the Guwahati International Airport will have direct connectivity to Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, Coimbatore, Kochi and Varanasi in this schedule. In the international sector, direct flights will be available to Bangkok apart from the existing Singapore and Paro. These flights are expected to increase the footfall of tourists as well as make more locations directly accessible from Guwahati.

The authorities also informed that the footfall of tourists has increased considerably in the month of October adding that the Guwahati Airport saw a total footfall of 5,08,025 on October 23 compared to 4,61, 649 on October 22. On 21 October 2023, the airport saw the highest one-day footfall in the financial year. A total of 18175 people travelled through the Guwahati Airport on the day, out of which 9259 were departure passengers, while 8916 were arrival passengers, which shows a balance between the passengers going through both terminals. Additionally, the airport saw a total number of 3706 scheduled flights in the month of October 2023.

The Chief Airport Officer mentioned that they are expecting an increase in passenger footfall in the coming days as the tourism season of the region peaks during the winter months.
