GUWAHATI: The people of Guwahati will be able to witness another celestial activity, this time a total lunar eclipse on Tuesday.

Both partial and total phases of the celestial activity can be viewed from Guwahati as stated by Kolkata's Positional Astronomy Centre of the India Meteorological Department. According to the Centre, the eclipse is slated to start at 2.39pm on November 8 and shall be total at 3.46pm respectively.

It is known that the total lunar eclipse will be visible from regions of Asia, Australia, North America, South America, North Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

It may be mentioned here that a lunar eclipse occurs when Earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon in exactly or very close alignment. This is when the Moon moves into the shadow of the earth. It is called a total eclipse when the entire Moon comes under the umbral shadow of the Earth, whereas it is partial when only a part of the Moon comes under the shadow.

Moreover, the activity on Tuesday will also be the last total eclipse of the year. The next total eclipse will be in the year 2025 on March 14.

However, a partial lunar eclipse will be visible from regions of India on October 28 next year, the last being the one visible on November 19, 2021.

As per information, this total lunar eclipse will be visible from all the entire country. But, the beginning of the partial and total phases will not be visible from any place in India. This is because the phenomena will happen before moonrise.

The Positional Astronomy Centre in Kolkata in its statement mentioned that Eastern India will be witnessing the total as well partial phase of the eclipse. However, only the culmination of the partial phase will be visible from the rest of India.

So far as Guwahati is concerned, the duration of the total eclipse from moonrise will be 38 minutes and that of the partial eclipse will 1 hour and 45 minutes.
