GUWAHATI: In Narengi area, the surge in robbery and chain snatching incidents has taken a dramatic turn with the shooting of a chain snatcher attempting to evade arrest. The unfolding events on Wednesday saw Amir Ali, the injured perpetrator, receiving medical attention at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The arrest of Amir Ali was orchestrated by Dispur Police as part of an ongoing investigation into robbery and chain snatching episodes that have been plaguing the region. Under questioning, Amir Ali made a startling revelation, implicating another individual named Cintu Medhi in the series of robbery activities that have rattled the community.

Intriguingly, Amir Ali disclosed the secret location where all the stolen valuables were stashed away in the Narengi area. Prompted by this newfound information, the police accompanied Amir Ali to the hiding spot to facilitate the recovery of the pilfered items. However, a sudden twist occurred when Amir Ali wrested a pistol from one of the officers and made a desperate bid for freedom. The escalating situation prompted the police to open fire, resulting in Amir Ali sustaining injuries.

Surprisingly, Amir Ali and Cintu Medhi's names were previously implicated in the investigation linked to the manager of Purabi Diary, Ranjit Bora's murder case. Yet, due to insufficient evidence at the time, both suspects were eventually released from custody, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over their alleged involvement.

This recent incident has spotlighted the escalating crime wave in the area, prompting law enforcement agencies to adopt stringent measures to curb the rising cases of robbery and chain snatching. The events also cast a renewed focus on Amir Ali and Cintu Medhi, reigniting suspicions about their potential involvement in criminal activities, especially considering their previous connection to the unsolved murder case.

In a region grappling with heightened criminal activities, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement in bringing perpetrators to justice. The dynamics of this case underscore the delicate balance between maintaining public safety and ensuring the fair treatment of suspects, especially when crucial evidence is lacking.
