Guwahati: Chatribari Puja Pandal to Showcase Unique Themes of TV & Retro Music

GUWAHATI: With the Durga Puja festival around the corner, Guwahati is buzzing with excitement. Preparations for one of the most significant Hindu festivals are in full swing, as Puja organizing committees decorate their pandals with unique and diverse themes.

In its 69th year, the Chatribari Puja Celebration Committee in Guwahati has taken a distinctive approach by featuring two themes for its Puja Pandal: television and retro music. Debasish Das, Secretary of the Chatribari Durga Puja Celebration Committee, explained that this year, they are showcasing musical equipment and instruments in their puja pandal that have become obsolete.

Das stated, "Every year, we choose a different theme with the aim of imparting knowledge to the new generation. Last year, our theme was a library, and in 2021, it was ISRO. We are constantly striving to give our puja pandal a fresh look. This year, we've selected two themes - Indian television and retro music. Our aim is to display musical equipment and instruments that have become obsolete, such as radios, gramophones, tape recorders, bioscopes, old televisions, and more."

He also mentioned that preparations for this unique theme have been underway for the past two months. Local artists have been engaged to create all the elements in the pandal, with the goal of providing them support.

Das further elaborated, "Devotees and visitors will have the opportunity to view musical equipment, instruments, old televisions, radios, and more in our puja pandal. Additionally, statues of music legends, including Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Bhupen Hazarika, Lata Mangeshkar, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, and Manna Dey, will be displayed here."

Durga Puja is one of India's grandest festivals and is celebrated from October 20 to October 24 this year.
