GUWAHATI: In their ongoing investigation into the discovery of a transgender individual's body in the Chandmari area, Guwahati Police have detained another suspect.
As per reports, the latest individual taken into custody is a transgender person identified as Radha. This development follows the previous detention of three transgender individuals earlier in the day, who were picked up from Guwahati's Bamunimaidan locality.
All the detainees, including Radha, are currently undergoing police questioning, with expectations that more crucial information will emerge as the investigation progresses.
The incident began when the lifeless body of a transgender person was found under mysterious circumstances in Guwahati's Chandmari locality on a Saturday afternoon. The body was discovered inside a sack near a canal close to the Assam Engineering Institute hostel.
Subsequently, a team of Chandmari police, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Nandini Kakati, arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation into the matter.
The deceased was later identified as Amdadul Islam, the son of Ahmad Ali from Singari Madrassa in Mahguri Gaon, located under the jurisdiction of Juria Police Station in Nagaon district. Notably, a small tattoo was observed on the body by the police.
Amdadul Islam was believed to be a transgender man who frequently visited Guwahati. He was known to associate with a group of transgender individuals within the city. According to police sources, the deceased has been identified as Amdadul Islam, hailing from a place under Juria police station in Nagaon district. The body of Islam was found under suspicious circumstances and police suspected that he was killed somewhere else and the body dumped near AEI.
The police's intensive investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his untimely death and uncover the truth behind this unfortunate incident. The footage from a nearby temple reportedly showed two persons bringing the dead person there and throwing the body into the drain, according to a source.
