GUWAHATI: On Monday, psychiatrist Dr. Sangeeta Datta, the main suspect in the ghastly Guwahati child abuse case, underwent more questioning.

According to early reports, Guwahati Commissioner of Police (CP) Diganta Barah personally oversaw the interrogation. Sangeeta Datta was reportedly interrogated until midnight.

Police have now had access to footage from the compromised doctor couple's home CCTV system. As part of their ongoing investigation into the horrible conduct, up to 32 CCTV images have surfaced, and the police are carefully going through each one of them.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier directed Assam Police to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged child abuse case in Guwahati and finish the process within the next six months. Additionally, the chief minister requested that the Assam police deliver the charge sheet within the next 45 days.

He promised to ask the chief justice of the Gauhati High Court for a special court to hear the alleged child abuse case.

“I am personally monitoring this child abuse case, and I believe the investigation will be completed within the next six months. The couple has been slapped with various sections including sections under the POCSO Act. I will personally write to the chief justice of the Gauhati High Court seeking a special court for the trial of this case. I have directed the Assam police to file the charge sheet within a month or the next 45 days," said Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Diganta Barah, the commissioner of police in Guwahati, said during a news conference on Sunday that the victim girl's medical results are exceedingly concerning and that the police will thus seek the appointment of a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) to establish the case in court.

The police official stated that they will also submit a plea before the Gauhati High Court via the state government of Assam in order to ensure a swift trial in the alleged child abuse case following the submission of the charge sheet.

On May 6, Assam Police detained Guwahati-based doctor Sangeeta Datta near the Meghalaya border in connection with an allegation of child abuse.

Dr. Sangeeta and her husband, Dr. Waliul Islam, were charged with abusing their adopted little daughter. Dr. Sangeeta was hiding in a home in Umsning in Meghalaya's Ribhoi, adjoining Assam, while she was on the run.
