GUWAHATI:  A shocking and disturbing incident took place in Guwahati, as a woman narrowly escaped an attempted immolation by her in-laws, an act that mercifully failed. This incident unfolded at Puberun Path, located within the Bagharbari area of the city, sending ripples of concern throughout the community.

The incident was allegedly triggered by the theft of a gold ring, which the victim's mother-in-law was accused of. The dispute over the missing jewelry escalated to an alarming level, resulting in a horrifying attempt to set the woman on fire.

Miraculously, the woman managed to evade her in-laws and reached the safety of the Satgaon police station, where she recounted the harrowing experience. She further identified her husband, identified as Hirak Jyoti Pathak, as a participant in this macabre act.

The Guwahati police have registered a case against the accused husband and the in-laws in connection with the incident. The motive behind the alleged theft of the gold ring and the subsequent violent actions taken by the in-laws is currently under investigation.

Law enforcement agencies continue to delve into the case to ascertain the facts, providing support and assistance to the victim in this distressing ordeal.

Meanwhile, in a recent incident in Bilasipara, Dhubri, Assam, a suspected dacoit named Safikul Islam found himself injured as a result of police firing when he attempted to flee from law enforcement authorities. Safikul Islam had been accused of being part of a notorious duo, along with his partner Matiur Rahman, who had allegedly been involved in a series of robberies in Bilasipara over the past few days. Both suspects had been on the Assam Police's wanted list due to their alleged criminal activities in the region.

The arrest of Safikul Islam and Matiur Rahman took place on a Tuesday at an undisclosed location, following specific information received by the police. After their apprehension, the suspects were being transported to the police station for further legal proceedings when an unexpected turn of events occurred. Safikul Islam, one of the accused, attempted to make a daring escape from police custody, despite repeated warnings to halt his flight.
