GUWAHATI: On Monday night, Assam police detained one person in connection with the seizure of a substantial quantity of illegal heroin worth Rs 16 crore from a car outside of Guwahati.
A police squad commanded by Addl. SP (HQ), Kamrup, Kalyan Kumar Pathak allegedly initiated an operation after receiving information about a potential narcotics trade in the Amingaon or Palashbari region.
The Manipur suppliers who were supposed to supply the contraband, according to the police, even chose and visited the locations where it would be unloaded. However, they made the last-minute decision to deliver the contraband to Sonapur.
As a result, the illegal goods were located in Honda City. At the Sonapur Tollgate, police attempted to halt the car, but the fleeing hawker forced them to fire one bullet.
The Honda City car was eventually stopped and taken into custody. Police discovered 145 soap boxes during their search, each containing multiple sachets of heroin weighing 2kg. Mafizul Haque, a 34-year-old street vendor, was detained in connection with it.
The recovered heroin is claimed to have a staggering market value of Rs 16 crore.
In the meanwhile, a case was opened under the NDPS Act against the detained person. To find more connections, an inquiry is being conducted.

Speaking to the press conference, the commission said that over 425 kids were spared in the last half of this year, adding to the already astounding number of kids saved in June alone. Children were saved in the greatest numbers in Guwahati, Barpeta, and Dhubri.
They discovered that there are now more children working than there were during the COVID-19 era.
