GUWAHATI: In a devastating event that unfolded in Guwahati city, a massive landslide struck Milan Nagar No. 2 of Hengrabari, unleashing enormous rocks from a hillside on a fateful Friday night. The consequences were dire, with three individuals suffering severe injuries due to the onslaught of stones.

Among the injured were two men and one woman, all swiftly rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in critical condition. Immediate medical attention was crucial to their chances of survival.

The calamity did not spare the nearby residential areas either, as a house at Zoo-Narengi road faced the wrath of another landslide triggered by relentless rains the previous Thursday morning. Thankfully, the family living in the affected house narrowly escaped this disaster, a fortunate turn of events amidst the chaos.

This string of natural disasters is closely tied to the relentless rains that have plagued Guwahati, causing widespread flooding and leaving the city in turmoil. The house that bore the brunt of the second landslide was perched precariously close to the edge of a hill in the Bhaskar Nagar area, making it particularly vulnerable.

Miraculously, no casualties or additional injuries were reported in this incident. Nevertheless, the toll on the affected house was severe, with its roof and guard walls left in ruins, according to reliable sources.

Meanwhile, Guwahati continues to grapple with the aftermath of heavy rainfall, with several low-lying areas being inundated by the continuous downpour. Streets are submerged, adding further challenges for both residents and the local authorities entrusted with managing this crisis.

In the face of these unfortunate events, a pressing need emerges for heightened vigilance and proactive safety measures in areas susceptible to such natural disasters. The safety and well-being of the city's residents must remain a top priority as Guwahati navigates the complex challenges posed by the inclement weather and its potentially devastating consequences.
