Guwahati: Major Bust by Police Uncovers FICN and Fake Gold Items in Rented House

Guwahati Police's operation at a rented house in Kahilipara reveals counterfeit currency worth Rs 1,03,500, along with fake gold items.

GUWAHATI: In a significant crackdown, the Guwahati Police made a startling discovery of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and counterfeit gold items concealed in a rented house located in the city's Kahilipara locality. Reports about the incident emerged on Tuesday, revealing the scale of the illicit operation.

During the operation conducted by a team of officials from the Bhagadattapur Police Outpost in Kahilipara, the authorities unearthed fake currency notes amounting to Rs 1,03,500. To their surprise, they also stumbled upon a cache of fake gold items, including a boat-shaped piece, a Christ idol, and four 'Kharus,' which are traditional Assamese ornaments. All of these deceptive gold items were later confirmed to be counterfeit.

Apart from the fake currency and fake gold, the officials also managed to seize three mobile phones and a counterfeit currency printing machine, indicating a sophisticated and organized operation. The involvement of such equipment raises concerns about the potential scale of the illegal operation and its impact on the local economy.

The operation did not end there, as two middlemen, identified as Rashidul Haque and Farooq Ahmed, both residents of Assam's Lakhimpur, were apprehended on charges of circulating the fake currency notes and running a deceptive business of selling counterfeit gold items to unsuspecting customers. The revelation of their involvement sheds light on the network of individuals behind the criminal enterprise.

During the subsequent interrogation, the detained individuals, Haque and Ahmed, confessed to conducting their illegal activities from the rented space for a period of four months. The revelation of the operation's duration suggests that it had been functioning clandestinely for some time before coming to the attention of law enforcement.

The bust of this counterfeit currency and fake gold racket is a significant achievement for the Guwahati Police in their efforts to combat financial fraud and protect citizens from falling victim to such scams. The authorities will continue their investigation to dismantle any remaining elements of the operation and bring all responsible parties to justice.

In summary, Guwahati Police's operation at a rented house in Kahilipara uncovered a cache of counterfeit currency and fake gold items, leading to the detention of two middlemen involved in the illegal activities. The bust serves as a warning to criminals engaged in such activities and demonstrates the determination of law enforcement to safeguard the financial interests of the public.
