Guwahati: Over 30 Students At IIT-G Test Positive For COVID-19

More than 30 students in the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) have been tested COVID-19 positive. Professors, Staffs and officers are also found infected with the virus.

GUWAHATI: As many as 35 to 40 students pursuing their studies in IIT-G (Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati) have been reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

Most of the students who are tested covid positive travelled from other different states as per sources. Other authorities of the institution including the professors, higher officers and staff deployed in IIT-G are also found to be infected with coronavirus while undergoing the covid test.

Sources in the IIT Guwahati informed that a family has also got infected with the deadly coronavirus infection and people with high symptoms related to covid have been admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).

According to reports those who are found covid positive have quarantined themselves within the premises of the institution itself. A quarantine center has also been made on the premises so that the disease does not spread and infect others.

On Monday 3 January, Assam's Guwahati city saw more than double COVID-19 positive cases with a total of recorded cases as 164 and 78 cases recorded on the previous day i.e. on Sunday.

In the case of the entire state of Assam, the COVID-19 cases on Monday touched a tally of 351 cases with an overall positivity rate of 0.96 percent. The death toll in the state was reported as 2 and the recovery rate stood at 98.63 percent.

Assam Health Minister Keshav Minister earlier assured that the state is ready to deal with the infection of COVID-19 and also for the new variant Omicron with its preparation of 9000 beds among which 1000 ICU beds and 2600 are for oxygen beds.

On Tuesday 4 January the state of Meghalaya recorded 5 Omicron cases among which one was found to be from Assam. Assam Health department is preparing a laboratory for genome sequencing of COVID-19 strains for the detection of Omicron at GMCH.
