Guwahati Private Hospitals urged to join fight against COVID-19

Guwahati: Amid a mounting number of cases across Assam, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with the private hospital owners in Guwahati city.

"In view of the rising number of cases, and likely further escalation, we held a meeting with all private hospitals in Guwahati and instructed them to set up the specialized facility and dedicated teams for COVID-19 management", Sarma said in a tweet.

Sarma held the meeting with the private hospitals in Guwahati on how to tackle the pandemic in the state, availability of hospital beds, testing facilities, as well as the improvement of other health infrastructure. At the same time, the minister has directed to set specialized facilities and dedicated teams for COVID-19 management.

It is to be noted that two more persons have succumbed to COVID-19, taking the death toll to 14. These deaths have been reported two days after a man from Guwahati who had passed away on May 22 last, had tested COVID-19 positive after death.

Meanwhile, the state government has imposed a complete lockdown in the Kamrup (Metro) area and the administration has urged the citizens to adhere to the lockdown rules and regulations. At the same time, the Assam Police has also set up helpline numbers that one ought to use to report violations of lockdown rules to the men in uniform. This lockdown has been imposed to arrest the spread of the disease and bring the graph down, which, Sarma has estimated, will happen by July 10 next.
