GUWAHATI: A day after Assam BJP president and MLA Bhabesh Kalita suggested some 'measures' to get respite from the exorbitant fuel price hike, some people staged an unusual protest today.

A group of people both male and female were seen riding bikes carrying three persons on their bikes instead of two in a busy road of Guwahati. The bike riders also mocked the BJP president saying 'thank you to Bhabesh Kalita'.

Besides, some condemned the statement made by Kalita alleging that the ruling party has no respect towards human life. "They lack respect towards human life. So, they could give such advice," an angry protester told the media.

On Sunday, the state BJP president said that people should ride 3 on bikes and use bicycles to avoid fuel expenditure. His statement has created anger among the people of the state.

On Sunday, the petrol price in Guwhati experienced a massive blow after it crossed the Rs 100 mark, witnessing a hike of 0. 79 per litre.

Several other parts of Assam had already been hit by the continuous hikes since last week, with many districts already crossing the century mark. In addition, the price of diesel was also hiked by 37 paise on Saturday.

The recent increase in prices of the fuel is the 10th hike this week all across India, while the prices have been hiked 13 times already since September 24.

In a country like India which faced economic downfall due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase of prices of fuels is making the survival of those whose lives are directly or indirectly affected by the price hikes very difficult.

Previously, the price of domestic non-subsidised LPG cylinders had been raised by Oil Marketing Companies by Rs 15 from October 6.
