Guwahati: The state police vigilance and anti-corruption wing on Wednesday arrested a senior accountant in the Cachar treasury office for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The accountant identified as Madan Singha demanded a bribe for the processing of the commutation loan.
''Today, a team of @DIR_VAC_ASSAM caught red-handed Sh Madan Singha, Senior Account Assistant O/O Treasury officer, Cachar in his office receiving a bribe of Rs 10000. The bribe was demanded processing of commutation loan of the complainant, who is a retired public servant,'' Special Director General of Police (DGP), Law and Order, GP Singh.
Notably, despite Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma's warning, the government officials are taking bribes.
Earlier, Sarma had warned government officials and told the public to be aware of such people taking bribes and urged them not to give any exceptional money or bribe money to such people.
