Guwahati: The security personnel of Trinamool Congress's General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee allegedly misbehaved with a section of journalists at an event in Guwahati and the incident was reported from the ITA auditorium at Machkhowa.

This incident of alleged misbehaviour was condemned by the Guwahati Press Club on May 11 and its members hit out at the security personnel for verbally abusing and attempting to hit the journalists at a TMC event held in ITA Machkhowa.

The Guwahati press club also compelled the top brass of the TMC to apologize during the event.

A Guwahati-based journalist, who was present at the ITA auditorium, claimed that the security personnel told the scribes to "wait and see after three years".

According to reports, a certain section of journalists "created unnecessary hue and cry as checking at the entry gate of ITA auditorium is mandatory, especially when a senior political leader is at the venue".

Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee apologized to the journalists after the meeting saying that he was aware of the incident very lately.

It is to be noted that Abhishek Banerjee is in Guwahati to inaugurate the state headquarters of the TMC and met with the leaders of northeast state units.

The Mamata Banerjee led TMC which rules West Bengal is eyeing to expand its footprints in Assam as well as the northeast.

Several political leaders have recently jumped ship and switched over to the TMC. It included the likes of former All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev who joined the party last year and former APCC president Ripun Bora who defected from the Congress party last month.
