GUWAHATI: Guwahati, often referred to as the gateway to India's Northeast, is rapidly transforming into a bustling hub of development. In a bid to celebrate this progress, foster peace, and usher in prosperity to the state, the city is gearing up to host a momentous sporting event that promises to leave an indelible mark on the country's sporting landscape. This ambitious endeavor is a collaborative effort between the Indian Army, the Assam government, and Coal India Limited.

The primary aim of the Guwahati Marathon is to draw high-caliber national and international athletes. It aspires to establish Guwahati as a prominent fixture on the national and international marathon calendar. This event symbolizes the evolving spirit of development in Assam, showcasing the state's "Shining Assam" narrative. Coal India Limited has stepped up as the title sponsor, with the Indian Army taking the role of the affirming partner.

The marathon will comprise three races: a half marathon covering 21.0975 kilometers, a 10-kilometer half marathon, and a 5-kilometer run. These diverse race categories aim to engage runners of all levels, from novices to seasoned athletes. To make the event even more enticing, organizers have announced substantial prize money for each race, distributed across various age and gender categories.

A planning conference for the marathon recently convened in Guwahati, with notable attendees such as Assam cabinet minister Nandita Garlosa and Lieutenant General Manish Erry, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Gajraj Corps. Several high-ranking officials from concerned departments were also present during this meeting.

While the formal announcement of the event is pending, more details such as race routes, prize money distribution, and the event logo are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks. Organizers are diligently preparing a dedicated website for the event, and online registrations are anticipated to commence around September 20th of this year.
