Kokrajhar: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mohilary on Monday laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of Domgaon to Kukurmari road with protection works in the washed away portion, at a function held at Choto Nilibari near Aie River in Chirang district.
Referring to the flood and communication problem faced by the people of that area after the flood water of River Aai washed away that portion of the road in 2017, he said that the project would solve all these problems of the people to a large extent.
He directed the engineers of PWD and other officials of the department concerned to monitor the project regularly so as to ensure that the implementation of the said project was completed within the stipulated time frame and added that he would also review the project personally from time-to-time. He further said the paper works and Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for protection works from flood and erosion of 29 rivers and tributaries flowing through four districts of BTC area had been prepared and sent by them to the Central Government for necessary sanctions.
Earlier, in his inaugural address, State Tourism and Welfare of Plain Tribes and Backward Classes Minister Chandan Brahma informed that the scheme was funded by the Ministry of Development of North East Region (DONER), India under North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS).
The reconstruction of road-cum-protection works from flood and erosion of River Aai will be done for an estimated amount of Rs 30 crore at the flood washed away portion measuring 13.10 km.
Former Speaker of BTC Legislative Assembly, Paniram Brahma, former MLA Motindra Basumatary, former Executive Member, BTC, James Basumatary and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
