HAILAKANDI: The Hailakandi district administration has declared dry days throughout the district from 6.00 pm of Tuesday to 6.00 pm of Thursday to maintain peace and tranquility in view of the ensuing Assembly election. May 2, the day of counting of votes, has also been declared as dry day.
An order to this effect was issued by District Magistrate, Megh Nidhi Dahal here on Friday. The order stated that possession of any intoxicant by any person or group is prohibited throughout the district. All IMFL "OFF"/"ON" licence premises and country spirit retail vend licence premises will remain closed. "Any violation of the order shall be dealt with under the relevant provision of Assam Excise Act and Rules and Representation of the People Act," it warned.
