SILCHAR: A police sub-inspector has been detained and being interrogated for his alleged role in kidnapping of two youths. Cachar police on Monday night raided the house of Bidhan Das, the accused SI in Badarpur and on Tuesday he was summoned to Katigorah Thana where DIG (Southern Range) Kankan Jyoti Saikia was interrogating him. Das was presently posted at Hailakandi Sadar PS. On May 1, two youths namely Kutub Rabbani and Altaf Hussain of Katigorah were reportedly kidnapped in separate incidents. Interestingly both of them managed to escape from the custody of their kidnappers. Later, they lodged complaints with Katigorah police alleging that after being kidnapped they were kept in a house in Badarpur and a lady reportedly cooked for them. That house was owned by Bidhan Das and the lady was his wife. Local police for some reasons overlooked the allegations of the kidnapped youths, supposedly for their involvement in supari syndicate.

Later the incident was reported to DGP GP Singh on Monday afternoon and he instructed Cachar SP Nomal Mahatta to investigate. Accordingly Mahatta visited Katigorah Thana and from there he talked to Das over phone as he was in Hailakandi. Later, at night Cachar police raided the palatial house of Bidhan Das in Badarpur. Bidhan Das was only now given permission to leave, but he was instructed to show up whenever he was called.
