Hajo: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma spearheaded a cultural renaissance that revitalized the long-forgotten tradition of Bulbuli Fight at Shri Hayagriva Madhav Mandir in Hajo on January 15. This event marked an important achievement as it followed a recent decision by the cabinet and approval of a thorough Standard Operating Procedure (SoP).
The Bulbuli fight, an ancient practice steeped in Assam's cultural legacy, has been revived by the state government. This renaissance enlivens time-honored customs and rituals that have persevered across generations. The return of this traditional event serves as evidence of the government's unwavering dedication to revitalizing and conserving a rich tapestry of past practices.
The Bhogali Bihu celebrations were a meticulously planned and well-executed event, guided by a comprehensive set of standard operating procedures. The successful outcome showcased the present administration's committed efforts towards preserving these cultural practices for future generations. Enthusiasts along with devotees of Hayagriva Madhav Mandir witnessed an awe-inspiring spectacle known as Bulbuli Fight - a tradition which had not been observed in almost 10 years!
After being temporarily discontinued, the competition that dates back to Swargadeo Pramatta Singha's era was resurrected in December 2023 by the state government. The festivities began with a spiritual touch as Assam Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma accompanied by his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma and their children visited Hayagriva Madhav Mandir for offering prayers. A mass ensemble gathered to witness the event.
The Chief Minister was joined by MLA Suman Haripriya, Minister of Public Health Engineering Jayanta Mallabaruah and many followers in witnessing the revival of a long-standing Bhogali Bihu tradition - The Bulbuli fight. This fun competition between two bulbuls on a stage has been an integral part of celebrations for centuries. Its return not only pleases devotees but also highlights the determination and dedication of the Assam government to protect and revive its cultural heritage.
