JAMUGURIHAT: Hamro Prayash, a social media platform, had organized a series of panel discussions on various topics on the occasion of its first establishment day on April 11 at Udayan Rangamancha, Samar Dalani here. The day-long programme began with the hoisting flag by Lila Kanta Sarma, Headmaster of Dakhin Nagsankar HS, followed by floral tribute by Parbati Sarma, president of Dakhin Nagsankar GP.
The first session began with a multilingual poetry meet with Chhatraman Subba in the chair. The poetry session inaugurated by Tek Bahadur Katowal was conducted by Anjan Baskota. A total of 30 invited poets from throughout the State read out Assamese, Nepali, Hindi, Bangla and English poems in the session. Following the session, a seminar paper on 'History of Samar Dalani' was presented by Phaninra Upadhayay which was presided over by Bhabani Sarma.
Another important session on the topic 'New Education Policy 2020: Prospects and Challenges' was held with Chandra Kanta Sarma, retired headmaster, in the chair. Dr. Chintamoni Sarma, Principal of Biswanath College, and Dr. Binod Pokhrel, chief scientist; Water Resources, Arunachal government, had highlighted various issues related to the topic and delivered value added lectures as speakers.
The next session of book release was held wherein three books were released. Jadab Sarma, chief secretary of Axam Xahitya Xabha, released Baraniya Sabda-Sambhar, a collection of Assamese critical essays by Anjan Baskota. Rajen Sarma released Anunad, a collection of Nepali poems edited by Puspa Dahal and Anjan Baskota, while eminent critic Gyan Bahadur Chhetry unveiled Samayka ratharu Samayka samayharu written by Kamal Sarma. The inaugural session was also attended by Dwijen Nath, convener of Kuhi Samiti of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Chiranjib Barua, assistant convener of the publication committee of Axam Xahitya Xabha along with other dignitaries.
The last session of discussion on 'Gorkhas of Assam: Issues of Identity Crisis' was held with Rajen Sarma, former secretary of All Assam Gorkha Students' Union, in the chair. Dilip Gajurel, the central vice-president of AAGSU, and emerging writer Prakash Koirala took part as resource speakers and highlighted various issues concerning the topic. This interactive session was also addressed by Lekhnath Sarma, central executive member of AAGSU.
A multi-cultural function was held at night which was inaugurated by Krishna Mijar, an eminent folk artiste. Before the cultural function, a special felicitation programme was held with Rishiraj Sarma, president of the reception committee, in the chair wherein Anjan Baskota, the recipient of Sahitya Akademi's Young Writers Award 2020, was felicitated with a citation paper, gamosa, xarai and a packet of books. Arjun Chetry, president of All Assam Gorkha Students' Union, graced the felicitation programme as chief guest.
