Handloom and textile expo kicks off in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The national-level Handloom and Textile Expo, 2019 kicked off in Lakhimpur on Friday. The extravaganza, which will conclude on June 20, has been organized under the North Eastern Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) at Tyag Kshetra of North Lakhimpur town to give efficient weavers of the region a marketing platform.

The inaugural function of the event was held on Friday evening with Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta as chief guest. He inaugurated the expo by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Lakhimpur DC Dr. Jeevan B graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

In addition to them, Handloom and Textile Director Kabita Deka, Deputy Director Dibyajyoti Majumder and a galaxy of Handloom and Textile Department dignitaries of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts were present in the programme. Several weavers and handloom textile production agencies of the north-eastern region are taking part in the event.
