PATHSALA: Financial hardship cannot hinder the path of success. This has once again been proved by the son of a handloom weaver with limited facilities, Sourav Das who secured 1022 position in the JEE advance examination in 2020.
Though he wanted to become a physician initially, he changed his aim in life soon after getting selected to undergo coaching under Oil India's Super 30 group. Sourav is son of Hitesh Das and Padumi Das of Patacharkuchi in Bajali district. Extreme financial hardship compelled his father Hitesh Das to go to Sualkuchi in search of job. There he worked for around 10 years in the handloom and weaving industry. He returned home with the necessary skill and later opened a weaving centre at Patacharkuchi with limited looms.
Sourav studied at PatacharkuchiSankardevSishuNiketan and passed the HSLC examination with 91 per cent. He did his HS from Krishan Kanda Handiqui Junior College, Pathsala and passed the HS examination with 79 per cent marks. While his friends took admission in various coaching centres to prepare for medical and engineering entrance exams, financial constraints prevented Sourav from doing so. But he collected the advertisement of OIL Super 30 from a relative and appeared in the selection examination. He was selected and he spent more than 12 hours a day in preparing for the engineering entrance exam. In the JEE main examination, he secured 4096 rank among SC candidates. But during the lockdown he had to prepare for the advance examination himself. He expressed happiness at getting a good rank. People of the area congratulated Sourav for achieving success in the entrance examination by dint of his hard work and sincerity. PhaniPathak, BJP State spokesman, visited his house on Thursday and congratulated him. The president of the newly-formed BajaliZilaSangbadikSantha, Nava KantaKalita also met Sourav and felicitated him with a gamosa on Thursday.
