DIBRUGARH: Residents are irked due to the haphazard parking of vehicles in Dibrugarh Town. The town has been facing immense traffic snarls due to an increasing of four-wheelers in past five years. Every day, the people of Dibrugarh are battling traffic problems to park their vehicles.
The roads have become chock-a-block with four-wheelers and three wheelers and if one has to cross the road, one is in 'perennial fear of losing one's limbs'.
Similarly, the RKB Path has also become very cramped due to no proper parking arrangements made by the concerned authorities. Since cars are parked on both sides of the road, there is very little space left for vehicles to ply resulting in huge traffic congestion.
"The illegal collection of parking fees is one of the major problems in Dibrugarh. CCTV cameras were installed in the major areas of the town but still the illegal collection of parking fees has been collected by adhering to all norms of district administration. It was noticed that many buses were parked in NH37 from Amolapatty to Phoolbagan area of Dibrugarh town," said Kamal Singh, a resident.
He said, "The increasing numbers of three-wheelers has become one of the major causes of parking woes in Dibrugarh town. The Dibrugarh district administration should be very strict while handing over licences to the three-wheeler drivers/owners and they should also mull opening a multi-level parking area. After the opening of Bogibeel Bridge more vehicles are plying regularly in Dibrugarh posing serious problems in traffic management. The district administration should think about multi-level car parking to solve the problem."
