Around hundreds of Safai workers were present at the meeting where important discussion regarding the welfare of safai workers were discussed.

“As you know that there are tremendous unrest among the Safai workers for not providing adequate relief for the fire-affected families. The main backbone of Swachch Bharat Abhijan, the Safai workers has always been neglected,” said Ranjan Chowdhury, president of HMU, Dibrugarh Municipality Board.

He said, “The recent fire incident has gutted 15 houses which belonged to the Safai workers of Dibrugarh Municipality. We demand Rs 5 lakh compensation for the affected families.”

“Dibrugarh Municipality always said due to the lack of funds they cannot do anything for safai workers. However, we have been demanding for a long time that the top 100 tax defaulters’ names be made publicly available for the benefit of all parties involved; strangely, they haven't done so yet,” Chowdhury stated.
