DEMOW: Demow Model Hospital CUM-CHC situated at Demow Konwar has secured another milestone in Snake Bite treatment. Dr.Surajit Giri, an anaesthesiologist of Demow Model Hospital and Snakebite Specialist of Demow Model Hospital and his team had successfully prevented death in snake bite for the third consecutive year. For which the Demow Model Hospital celebrated the hattric year of zero death in snake bite from 2021 to 2023.

A meeting was organized in the first floor of Demow Model Hospital on Wednesday. In the meeting, Dr.Bhupendra Kumar Das, Joint Director Health Service Sivasagar, Dr.Udayaditya Rajkonwar, Chief Medical and Health Officer, Dr.Gayatri Senapati, Nodal Officer, Snake Bite Sivasagar, Dr.Rupam Borkotoky, Deputy Superintendent of Demow Model Hospital, Dr.Prasanta Pratim Sarma, Deputy Superintendent of Demow CHC were present.

In the meeting the dignitaries gave their valuable speech. Dr.Surajit Giri, an anaesthesiologist and snakebite specialist in Demow Model Hospital made aware the people present and said that after a snake bite the patient should be offered courage and should be taken straight to the hospital.

He said the patient should not massage the snake bite part and if it is done then the poison of the snake bite will spread. He said the main reason for this success is that the patients reached the hospital before 1 hour and after coming to the hospital the patients stayed in the hospital only for 24 hours.

If symptoms are shown then the anti venom injection will be given. He went on to say that anti venom is not necessary in the event of every snakebite. He said 15 percent venomous snakebites people and 85 percent are non poisonous snakes.

Another reason behind the success is Venom Response Team has been very active and anybody can be a part of it. The treatment for snakebite is done depending on the symptoms of the patient. He said health workers of Demow Model Hospital have played their roles. He also said 95 percent patients in snakebite case belongs to a poor family and they should be financially help by providing medicines.

When contacted Dr Surajit Giri, an anaesthesiologist in Demow Model Hospital and snake bite specialist of Demow Model Hospital he said that in the year 2021, 464 snakebite patients were treated with zero death, in the year 2022, 573 snake bite patients and in the year 2023, 630 snakebite patients with zero deaths were treated. He also informed in the year 2023, 91 Snake bite patients of Charaideo, 90 patients of Dibrugarh, 20 patients of Golaghat, 16 patients of Jorhat, 5 patients of Tinsukia, 3 patients of Dhemaji district, 3 snake bite patients of Majuli, 2 patients of Lakhimpur, 1 patient of Dima Hasao and 1 patient of Baksa came to Demow Model Hospital for treatment.

On the occasion of celebration, a cake cutting ceremony was organized in the first floor of Demow Model Hospital on Wednesday. Dr.Bhupendra Kumar Das, Joint Director Health Service Sivasagar inaugurated the cake-cutting ceremony. In the programme the doctors, nurses, office staff of the hospital, media persons of Demow along with other dignitaries were present.
