As per a notification issued by the State Education Department Additional Chief Secretary Manindar Singh, a big relief comes way for the Assam TET qualified teachers as they will not have to reappear for the examination. The notification issued states it clearly that the teachers can continue their job without any need to appear in the TET exam anymore.
In the meantime, this is worth mentioning that around 11,447 state-pool teachers and 30,087 SSA teachers are currently demanding for regularization of their job.
What is TET Assam
The Assam Teacher Eligibility Test, abbreviated as Assam TET, is conducted by the Department of School Education, which is also known as the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), of the State Government of Assam. Assam TET is the deciding factor for the recruitment of teachers in the government as well as private schools of Assam. Candidates who are looking forward to a career as a teacher in any government or private school of Assam have to appear for this examination and fulfill all of its eligibility criteria to be considered for vacancies.
Assam TET 2019 is being conducted after a gap of seven years. The exam is for recruiting teachers for the lower primary and upper primary classes in schools. The lower primary category includes classes from 1 to 5 whereas the upper primary category pertains to the classes 6th, 7th, and 8th. Teacher Eligibility Test
As per the mandate of RTE Act, the Government of Assam, Department of Elementary Education had decided to conduct Teachers' Eligibility Test with the objective of recruiting meritorious and qualified teachers following the guidelines and norms of National Council of Teacher Education( NCTE).
The notification of the NCTE which is the designated Academic Authority under RTE Act, 2009, viz. F.No.61-03/20/2010/NCTE (N&S) dtd 23.08.2010 amended vide F.No.61-1/2011/NCTE(N &S) dated 29th July ,2011 which prescribes the minimum qualification – both academic and professional, for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher and one of the essential qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in any schools referred to in clause(n) of section 2 of the RTE Act is that he/she should pass Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by the appropriate Government in accordance with the guideline framed by NCTE.
National Council of Teacher Education vide No. 76-4/2010/NCTE/Acad dtd 11.02.2011 has laid down the guidelines for conducting the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) under Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE), 2009.
Pursuant to this and in order to ensure the intake of meritorious persons as Teachers, and thereby improve the quality of classroom transaction and teaching as a whole, TET was conducted in Assam and a committee, known as Empowered Committee on TET was constituted and notified.
To bring about a perspective change in the education sector and to bring about quality in education, the Government of Assam has conducted six number of TET so far in which 88571 candidates qualified. Assam TET Eligibility Criteria 2019 Lower Primary Level:

The applicant must have completed his/her class 12th education from a school of a recognised board.
The applicant must have cleared all the subjects in his/her class 12th final examinations.
The applicant must have at least 50 percent marks in his/her higher secondary examinations if he/she belongs to the general or open category.

Eligibility Criteria for Assam TET 2019 Upper Primary Level:

Assam TET 2019 Age Limit:
You should not be a person of less than 18 years and more than 38 years as on the 1st of January 2019 to apply for TET. However, you will get a relaxation of another 5 years on the upper age limit, in case, you belong to ST (H), ST (P), ST and SC categories as per the norms of the Government of Assam. Even, the upper age limit can be relaxed for candidates working under the scheme of Strengthening and improvement of the quality education in the state on contractual basis for utmost 5 years and are ready to participate in the instant TE.

Qualifying marks
A person who scores 60% or more in the TET exam will be considered as TET pass. School managements (Government, local bodies, government-aided and unaided)
(a) may consider giving concessions to persons belonging to SC/ST, OBC, differently-abled persons, etc., in accordance with their extant reservation policy;
(b) should give weight to the TET scores in the recruitment process; however, qualifying the TET would not confer a right on any person for recruitment/employment as it is only one of the eligibility criteria for appointment.

Award of TET Certificate
The appropriate Government conducting the Test shall award a TET Certificate to all successful candidates. The certificate should contain the name and address of the candidate, date of birth, Registration No. year/month of award of Certificate, marks obtained in each Paper, class level of its validity (Class I to V, class VI to VIII or both), and, in case of classes VI to VIII, the subject area (Science and Mathematics, Social Studies, etc.). The certificate may be electronically generated with adequate security features. Appropriate may consider utilizing the services of specialized agencies for issuing de-materialized (demat) TET certificates as a security feature to avoid any kind of malpractice.
