Health Department of Lakhimpur district all set to administer polio drops

LAKHIMPUR: The Health Department of Lakhimpur district is all set to administer the polio drops to children below the age of five years on January 19 along with the rest of the nation. This was declared by Dr. Shilpi Saikia, Lakhimpur District Immunization Officer, in a press conference held at North Lakhimpur Press Club on Friday.

Addressing the media persons, the Immunization Officer said that booths to administer polio drops were set up across the district in all hospitals, markets, airport railway stations, bus stops, malls, picnic spots, and other public places. As per her information, a total of 910 polio booths are set up across the district and a total of 1,51,119 children between the age group of zero to five years are targeted to administer the polio drops in those booths.

“Even weak children and newborn babies are to be given polio drops. These drops are in addition to the routine immunization doses. These drops are completely safe and are of the highest quality. The repeated doses of polio will provide additional protection capacity to the children to fight against the germ of the disease. It will ensure the complete eradication of the disease from our nation,” she further stated.

“A total of 3448 vaccinators will administer the polio drops in Lakhimpur on that day. For the smooth conduct of the program and to handle any emergency situations, 12 mobile medical teams, 30 transit teams were constituted in the district,” stated Dr. Gunin Kumar Gogoi, the Joint Director-in-Charge of the Lakhimpur District Health Services, addressing the press conference.
