It may be mentioned here that the Director of Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam, sent a special letter to the Transport Department of the state regarding road safety. Accordingly, on the basis of a letter of the Commissioner of State Transport Department and Member Secretary of the State Road Safety Council, dated May 19, 2023, such steps have been taken to reduce accidental deaths in Biswanath as in other districts.
Significantly, the trend of road accidents and deaths has increased in the first four months of the current year ending April, 2023 and road accidents have increased by 8% and there has been an increase of 12.25% over such period in the previous year.

Therefore, the Deputy Commissioners of the State and the chairmen of the road safety committees have been asked to take immediate action in this regard.
