Herbal Garden of Biswanath College inaugurated on the occasion of World Environment Day

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Biswanath College celebrated World Environment Day with a series of programmes. The newly-prepared Herbal Garden of Biswanath College was formally inaugurated by Promod Borthakur, MLA of Biswanath constituency, in presence of Kokil Hazarika, president of Governing Body, and Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal of the college. A massive plantation programme was undertaken under the aegis of Environment and Climate Cell of the college supported by Assam Science Technology and Environment Council where teachers, employees and office bearers of students' union planted more than 100 saplings of valuable trees.

A meeting was organized by Environment and Climate Cell under the chairmanship of Kokil Hazarika. A district-level prize money online essay competition on 'Ecosystem restoration is the paramount task to save the earth', besides a State-level webinar on 'Role of Biochar in soil health management, climate change mitigation and crop productivity' was organized. Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal welcomed Prof.Abani Kumar Bhagawati, a renowned academician, and Dr Bikram Borkataki who served as inaugurator and resource person respectively.
