Herd of wild elephants unleashes terror along Indo-Bhutan border

BAKSA: Clashes between wild elephants and humans along the Indo-Bhutan border in Tamulpur subdivision of Baksa district have intensified.

In search of food, big herds of wild elephants come down from the hills and get involved in conflicts with human beings. Common people of the Indo-Bhutan border have been spending sleepless nights due to atrocities of wild elephants. A large herd of wild elephants entered the Devinagar village under Kumarikata Forest Range office on Thursday and wreaked havoc the entire night.

Due to terror of wild elephants, the villagers left their houses and took shelter in secure places. The villagers tried to chase away the herd of wild elephants by banging utensils and lighting fire but failed to chase away the herd. The herd of wild elephants broke into the residences of Sunda Bechera, Sukuram Hembram, Rajib Kisku, Budhinath Murmu and Jonas Mardi in the village and demolished everything inside the houses. The herd of elephants also ate the paddy and rice stored inside the houses.

Moreover, the herd also demolished the Devinagar Primary School in the village. The people along the border are still worried as the herd of elephants is still taking shelter along the River Pagladia.
