JAMUGURIHAT: Herds of wild elephants that come out from the Nameri National Park in search of food enter into the adjoining villages of Nameri, on the northern part of Jamugurihat causing great are damaging the paddy fields of the farmers, the dwellings of poor residents causing great threat to the lives and properties of the local residents.

The frightened residents have to pass sleepless nights when herds of wild elephants enter into the villages and vandalize houses from one end. The villagers of the adjoining villages of northern part of Jamugurihat including Khakan Basti, Mangalboriya, Bordekorai, Milanpur etc. have to pass sleepless nights due to the terror of wild elephants. On Thursday night, a herd of wild elephants entered into the dwelling of one Thagi Maya Karki and vandalized the house. The poor woman somehow escaped from the group of elephants and saved her life. Later on, the villagers came out of their houses and managed to send back the herd of wild elephants to the forest area.

Every year, herds of wild elephants that come out from the Nameri National Park and the forests of Arunachal Pradesh create lots of harm to the villagers and to the crops as well. Many people had lost their lives in man-elephant conflict. The government has taken no permanent solution to this issue. The local residents residing on the northern belt of Jamugurihat have made a humble appeal to the State government and the department concerned to take necessary measures in this regard.
