BOKAJAN: Karbi Anglong police has seized 775 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs 5.5 crore from a SUV over NH-36 along the Assam-Nagaland inter-State border in East Karbi Anglong on Sunday.
Based on a specific information, Dillai police intercepted a Tata Safari vehicle (AS 01ET 0910). On checking the vehicle, the police team recovered 70 soap boxes containing 775 grams of suspected heroin concealed inside the bonnet and ceiling of the vehicle.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the seized consignment was brought from Manipur. A person identified as Majid Ali has been arrested in this connection. Ali is a resident of Lilong, Manipur. The approximate value of the seized consignment is over Rs 5.5 crore in the black market," said a Police officer.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of OC Dillai Police Station Sub Inspector (UB) Bitupan Chutia, Assistant SI Jiten Gogoi and other personnel.
The drugs have been seized under the supervision of APS, SDPO Bokajan, John Das.
