HOWRAGHAT: Forces of Barpathar police station of Bokajan subdivision arrested a drug peddler from Thakarajan police check-point and recovered 323 grams of heroin worth Rs 3 crore on Wednesday. The peddler was apprehended by police when he tried to slip through the police dragnet in a scooter having registration number NL-07-EB-0556. The heroin was concealed inside 30 soap cases. The accused has been identified by police as Netra Bahadur Sonar, a resident of Dimapur in Nagaland. In a separate incident, during the wee hours of Monday, officers and staff of Dillai police station in Bokajan subdivision, in association with CRPF, intercepted a Tata DI XUV with registration number AS 01 NC 3848 and recovered 16 soap cases containing 204 gram of pure heroin from the door panels of the van. In this connection, police arrested one Faridul Islam, aged around 35, and Ajmir Ali, aged around 21 years. The drugs were tested with a detection kit and established as heroin. Police have made a rough assessment of the seized narcotics to be valued at nearly Rs 2 crore.
