At a press conference held in Nagaon, the president of the labourers’ organization, Pavan Panikor said that the State government and the excise department allegedly allowed some people to carry on the illegal business of spurious liquor only for the collection of taxes and vested interest of some department officials. He urged the government to stop the illegal sale of spurious liquor in the entire State immediately and to take strict action against those excise department officials who for their own interest allegedly allowed such business to continue.
On the other hand, the Deputy Commissioner of Nagaon, Jadav Saikia on Monday, through a special notification, banned the sale and stocking of laligur, a product made from sugarcane juice from which spurious liquor is apparently made.
