MAHASAMUND: In a recent public rally held in Mahasamund city, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized his Chhattisgarh counterpart, Bhupesh Baghel, accusing him of facilitating religious conversion to weaken Sanatan Dharma in the state. Sarma, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, urged the people of Chhattisgarh to vote for the BJP in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for a "double-engine government" to promote development in the state.

Sarma also took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the rally, claiming that Gandhi had never visited the Ram temple in Ayodhya. This political rally occurred ahead of the nomination filing for BJP candidates from four constituencies in the Mahasamund district, namely Mahasamund, Khallari, Basna, and Saraipali.

Sarma expressed concerns about the alleged rise in religious conversions and a conspiracy to convert tribals across Chhattisgarh. He accused Bhupesh Baghel of failing to bring about meaningful transformation in the state during his five-year tenure as chief minister. Sarma contended that the Congress leader had, instead, created an environment conducive to religious conversion, thereby undermining Sanatan Dharma.

Furthermore, Sarma questioned the Congress's commitment to building a Ram temple in Ayodhya, a project that was ultimately realized under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. Sarma pointed out that previous Congress governments had not taken significant steps towards constructing the temple, suggesting a lack of devotion to Lord Ram. He noted that Rahul Gandhi had visited various temples during elections but had not ventured to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, presumably to avoid offending supporters of Babar, a reference to the historical figure associated with the Babri Masjid.

The Assam Chief Minister also criticized the Congress-led government in Chhattisgarh for its unfulfilled promise of waiving loans for farmers. He argued that the need for loans stemmed from a lack of employment opportunities for farmers' children. Sarma contended that the Baghel government should have prioritized job creation to alleviate the financial burdens on farmers.

The upcoming Chhattisgarh assembly elections are scheduled to take place in two phases, on November 7 and 17.
