DIBRUGARH: As the Fortnight for Development program by the state government of Assam reaches its last leg, the chief minister today inaugurated several projects while laying the foundation stones for several others.

In order to develop the sporting sector of Upper Assam at par with that of anywhere else in the country, the chief minister today announced multiple sports projects in the Dibrugarh District of Assam. He announced four mini-stadium projects on Saturday, December 24. These will be located in the Naharkatia, Tingkhong, Lahowal and Duliajan regions of the district respectively. Apart from these, the Moran region of the Dibrugarh District will get a Rural Sports Complex.

In a bid to combine flood control and infrastructure development, the state government will create roads over several embankments of the region. The two main stretches are Mohmari Pathar to Madhupur and Oakland to Maijan Tea Estate.

A road overbridge will be created at the Madhavpur-Tipling railway crossing to avoid traffic in the region as well as smooth travel. Himanta Biswa Sarma also announced that a zoo will be created in the Dibrugarh district of the state. He mentioned that people from the region will no longer need to visit Guwahati to see a zoo.

In order to improve the electricity supply in the Dibrugarh district as well as the nearby regions, the state will set up power sub-stations at Khemeria in Duliajan, Belbari Tinali & Japisajia at Lahowal.

The government of Assam will also set up a Government Dental College with the Assam Medical College and Hospital located in Dibrugarh. This will further increase the facilities of the oldest medical institution in the state.

The Public Works Department will create a new Inspection Bungalow at Tingkhong. This will benefit the government officials who need to travel to that region on official duty. Another project inaugurated by the chief minister is the guest house and facilitation centre of the Water Resources Department.
