TANGLA: North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener and State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma made a fervent appeal to the people of Bodo belt to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the forthcoming BTC council polls.

Addressing an election campaign event at Bengbari under Khalingduar BTC constituency in Udalguri district on Wednesday, he said, "We have witnessed the enthusiasm of the people for the BJP in the Bodo belt, which bears testimony to the fact that BJP will form the government."

Sarma further alleged that the funds which had been released by the Centre and State for welfare schemes were siphoned off and the schemes were not properly implemented. "The job card beneficiaries are not in possession of their cards in the Bodo belt and the citizens who have received the PMAY houses have bribed the VCDC members to get their houses," he said.

He further alleged that the land rights of several communities have been denied and people had been rendered voiceless and made to live as second-class citizens in the Bodo belt. Sarma further promised of abolishing the VCDC and introducing the Panchayati Raj system where the representatives would be elected by the people.

Mangaldoi Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia also addressed the gathering. The event was also attended by Tezpur Lok Sabha MP Pallab Lochan Das and other leaders.
