DIBRUGARH: Health and Family Welfare, Education and Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, formally started chemotherapy service in a 30 bed facility at Radiology Department of Assam Medical College. The facility called ACCF Onco Care, a joint venture between Assam Government and TATA trust on Friday. The cancer patients of this region will now avail chemotherapy service following formal launching of the service, saying this Dr Sarma hope that Radiotherapy service will also be available from September this year. Meanwhile, a fifty members' team headed by two senior Onco specialists- Dr.Uma Shankar Kutum from ACCF and Gautam Chetry from TATA Trust, is rendering service in the newly set up service, the minister added.

Dr Sarma said, "Construction work of full-fledged cancer hospital under joint venture of TATA trust and Assam Government is almost on the verge of completion. The construction company –Larsen & Toubro had assured to complete the building with earthquake resistant and accommodating with NDMA guidelines,by September this year overcoming bad weather conditions."

ACCF, set up in December 2017 is in the process of building state–of the-art cancer center at Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Jorhat , Darang , Kokrajhar, Silchar and Diphu, the geographical spread intended to reduce the travel and hardship of cancer patients across the state.
