TINSUKIA: State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during his two-day visit to Tinsukia district, inaugurated a slew of developmental projects in Tinsukia and Sadiya and also addressed public meetings.

On Wednesday, the minister laid the foundation stone of Sister Nivedita Academic Block and Dr Bhupen Hazarika Puthi Bharal at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya Sadiya in presence of Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah and Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia. Sarma announced that Rs 10 lakh would be contributed in this project towards infrastructure development on behalf of the Government of Assam. He also laid the foundation stone of a 8.50-km long road that will connect NH-37 with Missing Borgorah via Asomiya Borgorah Ghumtibill, a signature project of PWRD under SOPD-G (2019-20).

After paying obeisance at Bura-Buri Than, the minister laid the foundation stone of a drinking water project to be constructed at the cost of Rs 10 lakh. He also announced that an additional amount of Rs 5 lakh would be spent for infrastructural development of Sri Sri Sankardev Dham Bor Namghor.

On Tuesday, Sarma, accompanied by Sanjay Kishan, Minister of State, Rameswar Teli, Union Minister, Pradan Baruah, MP of Lakhimpur, and MLAs of Digboi and Margherita, laid the foundation stone of Tinsukia Town Sunday Market Complex to be constructed at the cost of Rs 5.29 crore. The proposed market will not only ease the traffic congestion on GNB Road but also be highly significant for traders and consumers, said Sarma.
