JAMUGURIHAT: To enlighten the students' community of tea tribes with proper education, the government of Assam has decided to start a total of 119 model high schools in the areas of tea gardens throughout the state with an estimated budget amount of Rs 122 crore. The education department of the government of Assam with the financial support (SOPD) from the PWD department has started the mega event of foundation laying ceremony of the said schools. In this connection, State Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had visited both Sonitpur and Biswanath districts for the ceremonial purpose. Notably, a total of 6 tea gardens from Rangapara LAC including Phulbari TE, Naharani TE, Sonajuli TE, Thakurbari TE, Adabari TE, Sonabil TE had been shortlisted. Like the way, only one Tea garden namely Hatinga has been selected for establishment of model high school and has been selected from Sootea LAC. Similarly, Sakomotha and Pratubgur TE's under Biswanath LAC have been selected for the same. Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika; laid the foundation of the proposed Hatinga High School at around 11 am on Sunday.
Dr. Sarma had laid foundation stones of all the scheduled schools of Biswanath in presence of Handloom and Textile minister RanjitDutta, Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika, Biswanath MLA PramudBorthakur along with dignitaries from education and administrative sectors. Addressing a gathering at Sakomotha after laying the foundation stone Dr. Sarma said that the Assam government is committed to work round the clock for all round development of the tea tribe community. A total of 119 model high schools will start functioning throughout the state within six months. A sum of 10 per cent seats of these schools will be reserved for tea garden students. Similarly, these schools will be upgraded to higher secondary schools very soon. The process of teacher appointment will be initiated shortly. He further added that a total of 70 lakhs of tea garden workers will get Rs 3,000 in their bank account as per the commitment made by the State government earlier.
Talking to the mediapersons he termed November 1 as a golden day for the history of the education history of Assam as well as the Tea Tribe Community. He also rejected the claim made by MLA Sherman Ali for establishment of Miya Museum at SrimantaSankardevKalakhetra terming it as a day dreaming. He alleged that the earlier Congress government had done nothing for all round development of the Tea Community.
