JORHAT: The Chief Minister of Assam visited Dergaon today to take part in the passing out ceremony of new members of the Assam Police on Thursday.

The ceremony was organised in the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy Parade Ground. A total of one thousand seven hundred fifteen new graduates of the training academy participated in this batch. The duration of the course was nine months of rigorous training and the designation assigned to the new recruits is that of a constable with the Assam Police.

Participating in the 178th Graduation event, the Chief Minister of the state congratulated all the successful candidates and encouraged them to perform to their best limits. He also gave away trophies to the winners under various categories during the event.

“Assam government has been caring out a very transparent process of recruitment for the police forces in the state in the last two years leading to the appointment of nearly 14300 people in different positions in this duration. On 11 May, notifications will be released for 6500 more recruitments into the police force. More than 1700 jawans took part in today’s passing out parade. I want to thank all the officials with the police training academy for the successful completion of this training “ said the chief minister while speaking on the occasion.

The Director General of Police for the state, Gyanendra Pratap Singh also attended the event. Ministers Ajanta Neog and Keshab Mahanta as well as MLAs Biswajit Phukan and Bhabendra Nath Bharali were also present for this incident.

These recruitments are being carried out as a part of the election-time promise of the government to generate more than one lakh new government jobs in the state of Assam.
