LAKHIMPUR: The Hindu Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom (HYCPA) has expressed strong reaction over the inclusion of Northeast including part of Assam, by China in its 2023 edition of ‘standard map’ released recently. In this connection, the members of the organization rocked North Lakhimpur town by staging massive protest on Thursday against the alleged aggressive attitude of the neighbouring country.

China on August 28 released the 2023 edition of its ‘standard map’, incorporating Arunachal Pradesh, the Aksai Chin region, Taiwan and the disputed South China Sea in it. After releasing the standard map officially, it was launched on the website of the standard map service hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The map displayed by the Global Times showed Arunachal Pradesh, which China claims as South Tibet, and Aksai Chin, occupied by it in the 1962 war, as part of China.

Over the issue, the Lakhimpur District Committee of the HYCPA, led by president Jugmajyoti Dutta, secretary-in charge Ghana Kanta Borah, burnt the Chinese flag at Main Chariali of North Lakhimpur town and called upon the people of Assam to boycott Chinese goods. HYCPA central committee general secretary Madhav Das, district advisers Jyotimoy Doley, Junaram Deuri, organizational secretaries Likhak Mohanta, Mukesh Lalbegi, Mridupawan Gogoi and other regional level office bearers, members took part in the demonstration.

In this connection, HYCPA Lakhimpur district president Jugmajyoti Dutta, secretary-in charge Ghana Kanta Borah in a statement said that China included Assam and the Northeast, including Aksai Chin in its 2023 standard map, which had already been reported in China’s most circulated newspaper, the Global Times. They further said that the issue of China’s inclusion of Assam and the Northeast in its map did not take precedence in the face of the evictions, child marriage, artificial floods and incidents of Manipur. In the same statement, Dutta and Borah also said that the silence on the part of the Government of India on China’s inclusion of Assam and the Northeast in its map is condemnable. They alleged that the inactive role of the Union Government over the issue, like the role what Jawaharlal Nehru played in 1962 regarding Northeast, has worried the nationalist people of Assam.

“China has already set an example of warning India by saying not to interfere on Chinese interest in connection with Taiwan. So, the Government of India should take strong action against China regarding the standard map issue,” Jugmajyoti Dutta and Ghana Kanta Borah added.

The organization further urged the people India to boycott China economically and set an example of patriotism by boycotting the Chinese goods too.

“China is that country which has stood as the only obstacle to India’s accession to the Nuclear Sales Group (NSG). China is that country which has been unjustly occupying a vast territory of India called Aksai Chin or Siachen. China is that country which has stood as the obstacle with regard to getting Hafiz Syed recognized as an international terrorist because he is India’s only enemy. China is that country which is directly and indirectly inciting Pakistan to war against India and conspiring to capture the Indian market with cheap goods by destroying the domestic producers. Moreover, China is going to turn Assam into a desert by building big dam at the origin of Assam’s lifeline Brahmaputra in Tibet,” the statement added

“Hindu Yuva Chhatra Parishad, Asom will not hesitate to take proper action against anyone who supports the purchase and sale of Chinese goods on the grounds of cheap prices,” the statement added.
