Guwahati: With only a few days remaining before 2021, the Government of Assam today has released the official list of Holidays applicable to all the Offices as well as Revenue and Magisterial Courts under it. Dated 18th of December, the holiday list came after a decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting held on 13 December.
"The Cabinet approved the holiday list for 2021. General Holidays will be 34 days and restricted holidays will be 31 days." posted Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal. As has been quoted by the CM himself, the number of Gazetted holidays and Restricted holidays are 34 and 31 respectively while the number of half-holidays in the upcoming year is 2. Of the total 34 days, 6 will be closed as Saturdays and Sundays, reducing thus the actual score of official holidays to 28.
Notably, the month of October with 6 official holidays will be the month with the maximum number of holidays this year. It is then followed close by the months of January, April, May and November with 5 days each. Similarly, February and March have one holiday each, August has four. July and September have one holiday each on account of Id-ul-Zuha and Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva while the very last month of December has two holidays. The month of June will however have no holidays. As far as the half-holidays are concerned, the Offices mentioned will enjoy half-holidays on 19th August and 20th October on the occasions of Muharram and Lakshmi Puja respectively.
The first holidays of the year will include Magh Bihu and Tusu Puja (14th, 15th January), Netaji's Birthday (23rd January), Republic Day/Gwther Bathou San (26th January) and Me-Dam-Me-Fi (31st January). It is worth mentioning here that the release of the holiday list has invited different reactions from different groups of people. However, in accordance with this list, all offices and courts under the Government of Assam will be closed in 2021.
