Hospital attachment of NCC girl cadets concludes in Tezpur

TEZPUR: The 73 Assam Girls(I) Coy NCC under Group HQ, Tezpur conducted a 12-day hospital attachment camp for NCC officers and SW cadets (Girls) from February 6 to February 18 at 155 Base Hospital, Tezpur.

A total of 1 x ANO and 40 SW cadets attended the camp. Being conducted after a period of two years, the cadets attended the camp with zeal, excitement, and enthusiasm. Lt Col A S Walia, Defence PRO Tezpur said that after 12 days of rigorous training, the cadets were finally assessed through practical application of their knowledge on patients and written exam. During the period of the attachment camp the cadets were given theory and practical lessons on various medical aspects like taking temperature, pulse, BP of the patients. They were also given practical training of various first aid procedures to be followed in case of burns, poisoning, snake bite and dog bite. The cadets were also taught to give CPR to an unconscious person and to handle patients with haemorrhage, fractures or drowning. They were taught about various types of splints along with their usage as well as ways to innovate in the absence of supports for fractures in case of emergencies. Special emphasis was given on handling cases of child abuse and the explanation about good touch and bad touch.

Being girl cadets, special focus on aspects pertaining to women health and well-being through simple preventive procedures was also disseminated. In addition to this, the cadets were given an exposure of hospital administration and functioning of various departments so that in case of any calamities the cadets can become an interface between the military and the civilians. Furthermore, lectures on disaster management, firefighting, regimental way of living, leadership and personality development were also organized.

Being an Army attachment camp, the cadets in addition to medical training also underwent military routine training with an aim to bolster camaraderie, discipline, integrity, resilience and resolve among them. Overall, the attachment camp was very beneficial in building the right character, imbibing self-discipline and in preparing the cadets for providing basic first aid to the public whenever called for by the district administration during natural calamities like floods, earthquakes, etc. The cadets expressed their confidence in being flag bearers in their villages and neighbourhood for spreading the message of overall cleanliness, health and hygiene.

The camp culminated with distribution of the excellence certificates to the cadets followed by interaction between the Commandant, 155 Base Hospital and the cadets.
