Assam HSLC, HS Final Exams to be Held Once COVID-19 Situation Improves: Minister Ranoj Pegu

Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu said that the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam and Higher Secondary (HS) final exam would be held soon after the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic was over in the State.

LAKHIMPUR: Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu said that the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam and Higher Secondary (HS) final exam would be held soon after the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic was over in the State. He added that altogether 30,000 teachers of the State would be transferred (Rationalize Posting Transfer) soon under the provisions of the Right to Education Act, 2009 in view of the benefits of the students.

Dr. Pegu, the Minister of Education, Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes (non-BTC), said this while interacting with the media persons of the district on Tuesday. Notably, Dr. Pegu visited Lakhimpur on Tuesday for second time after he was appointed as the Education Minister of the State. During the visit, Dr. Pegu took part in a meeting at North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, the Principal of the college, and the college authority accorded warm felicitation to the minister who is an alumnus of the college. The college also feted newly-elected MLA of No. 111 Lakhimpur Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), Manab Deka, who is also an alumnus of the college.

In the meeting, Dr. Pegu held detailed discussion over various crucial issues of the college in addition to inspecting the same. Besides the MLA of the Lakhimpur LAC, academician-cum-retired Principal of Lakhimpur Girls' College, Dr. Mukundra Rajbonshi, Lakhimpur district unit BJP president Phanidhar Baruah, academic and administrative staff of the college were present in the meeting.

Then the minister took part in another meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur and the Superintendent of Police of the district at Circuit House.

While interacting with the media persons, Dr. Pegu said that the HSLC and HS exams would be held as per the report and suggestions of the Health Department when the COVID-19 situation would improve. He further appealed to the people to strictly follow the COVID-19 protocol laid down by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the State Government in order to build a COVID-free Assam.

Earlier, Dr. Pegu visited the office of the Deuri Autonomous Council (DAC) located at Narayanpur under Lakhimpur district. During the visit, DAC Chief Executive Member Madhab Deuri, chairperson Bishnu Deuri and vice-chairperson Amritprabha Deuri and office staff were present.
