Tinsukia: Tinsukia police, with support of Assam Rifles, recovered a huge cache of sophisticated arms and ammunition in an operation at Malou Pahar close to Myanmar border under Margherita PS on Wednesday.

The operation based on a tip-off and led by the DIGP (NER) Jitmol Doley and Additional SP (Security) Riponjoy Kakoty led to recovery of one MQ18 Rifle with 136 rounds of bullets, 2 magazines, two empty magazines of 9 mm pistol and 16 rounds of live bullets. These weapons are suspected to have been kept hidden by militants, though police could not ascertain which militant group they belonged to as both ULFA (I) and NSCN (K) used to frequent in the area. Prior to this operation, two ULFA cadres were caught with sophisticated weapons by the combined force of police and Army in the Myanmar border.
