SILCHAR: Amid massive hunt by police against drug rackets, smuggling in Cachar bordering Mizoram still continues. On Sunday night, a huge cache of Burmese cigarettes and Yaba tablets were seized at Dholai and Lailapur. Police arrested Saruk Ahmed Laskar, a 23-year-old youth from Silchar town from whom, two wheelers and 14 thousand Yaba tablets were seized.

On Sunday night, a team of Dholai police led by OC Manoj Pathak and in-charge officer of Lailapur outpost made the raid against drug racket. They arrested Saruk. The consignment of Yaba tablets weighing 1.760 gram was being smuggled into Cachar from Mizoram.

In a separate raid, Dholai police confiscated huge quantity of smuggled Burmese cigarettes from a Guwahati bound night super bus which was coming from Aizawl. Though the 40 thousand cigarettes were seized Sunday night, the bus was actually detained on July 28 after confiscating 17 bags of Burmese supari. The driver and his helper were arrested by police. Later on Sunday, police recovered the huge quantity of smuggled Burmese cigarettes from a hidden chamber inside the bus.
