NUMALIGARH: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Sunday organized the Jatiya Oikya Samaroh in Bokakhat to show the strength of the party.
A massive rally was also taken out, led by AGP president and State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, who also represents the Bokakhat legislative constituency. Atul Bora said, "There is a history behind the birth of the AsomGanaParishad and the people's sentiments are attached to it. So, it cannot be wiped off or destroyed." Emergence of several regional forces, including AsomJatiyaParishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal as a result of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA was seen during the recent months. But after the participation of a large number of people in the JatiyaOikyaSamaroh at Bokakhat on Sunday, the party supporters are claiming that the AGP has remained undaunted. Speaking to this correspondent, Atul Bora said, "The immense turnout in today's event and the rally is testimony to people's support for the AGP. In fact, I am surprised to see youths increasingly getting attracted to the party."
"The AGP was founded on a historic movement and saw martyrdom of 855 sons of the soil. The birth of the party was a call of time and the party is still relevant in Assam's politics," Bora added.
Executive president of AGP and State Water Resource Minister, KeshabMahanta, State Food and Civil Supply Minister PhaniBhushanChoudhury, AGP leader and MP BirendraPrashadBaishya and other party leaders were present in the meeting.
Addressing the huge gathering, KeshabMahanta said, "People's trust in AGP is unchanged, no one can alter or deter the meaning of true regionalism." During his speech, Mahanta also attacked the recently formed coalition of Congress and AIUDF. He termed this coalition as 'illegal'. Mahanta also urged the people of Bokakhat to continue their trust and support for their leader Atul Bora. With the massive turnout of people in the rally, the NH-37 witnessed traffic jam during the rally hours.
